What's So Special About Farm Goat Cheese?

Farm goat cheese tastes incredible but is also nutritious and rich with vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. It also has less lactose than cow's milk cheeses, which is also a win if you're lactose intolerant. The results are a cheese with lighter dairy content and a rich, creamy texture with incredible flavor.

How is Goat Cheese Made?

Depending on the farm or creamery, goat cheese is made a little differently. But in most cases, fresh milk is warmed to perfection and a starter culture is used to help ferment the milk. Your cheesemaker may also add rennet to coagulate the milk proteins and foster the curds. Afterwards, the forming goat cheese is scooped into molds, drained, and seasoned to perfection. Depending on the variety, your cheesemaker may also carefully mold their farm goat cheese.

Try New Flavors of Goat Cheese

Farm goat cheese often tastes tangy, earthy, or mild and sweet. But there are other flavor profiles you can experiment with that's infused right into your goat cheese. Unlike the cheese counter at your local grocery store, farm-made cheese tastes incredibly fresh, with several flavors to choose from. If you're looking for something different, try:

  • Contadina Farmstead Goat Cheese: Capra Nera Creamery's farmstead goat cheese tastes nutty and complex. It's created from raw goat milk and aged to perfection for a minimum of five months.
  • Maple Bourbon Goat Cheese: We love this tantalizing and sweet farm goat cheese with a honeyed maple flavor and fragrant bourbon notes.
  • Blueberry Vanilla Goat Cheese: Our blueberry-dusted goat cheese has a tart kick with a hint of vanilla. It's eye-catching and lip-snacking for a satisfying flavor.

Look at the Rind Type

When it comes to texture and flavor, your goat cheese rind matters. You'll find that some goat cheeses have edible rinds and others absolutely do not. If you want a more complex flavor profile, go for goat cheese with the rind intact. But we get it; not everyone enjoys a good cheese rind. Rest assured, you don't need a rind to enjoy this incredible-tasting cheese.

What to Pair with Farm Goat Cheese?

Goat cheese tastes great alone or on peaches, berries, apples, figs, and apricots, to name a few delights. But we also have some goodies at our cheese store that taste incredible with your favorite goat cheese.

Grab the Gracious Gourmet Rosemary Pear Spread, which combines pears and dried cranberries with a hint of honey and is spiced with black pepper and a hint of rosemary. Enjoy with soft cow and goat cheese, blue cheese, or spooned over ice cream for an end-of-day treat.

Or try it on the Gracious Gourmet Smoky Ginger Peach Spread, which goes well with goat cheese, ice cream, smoked ribs, poultry, and more. Or mix it into your morning oatmeal to start your day with a kick.
